Senior Alex Araouzos made sure his final home match was a special one as he helped clinch the doubles point for USD, then swept his opponent 6-1, 6-2 in singles play to put the Toreros ahead 3-0. This win put the Toreros at 12-8 overall and 6-1 in WCC play. USD will look to continue its hot play this weekend vs Pacific and St. Mary's.

Women’s Tennis

USD Women’s Tennis went 0-2 this past weekend with losses vs #9 Pepperdine and LMU. The Toreros were swept in both matches. The team will be back at home this Sunday for their final home match of the season, vs. the Pacific Tigers.

Softball

USD Softball faced off vs the Santa Clara Broncos this past weekend in a three game series in Northern California. In the first game of the series, the Toreros offense struggled as they were held to 1 run on 5 hits in a 4-1 loss. Starting pitcher Hannah Boos pitched a complete game but was unable to get any run support in the loss.

USD bounced back in the second game of the Saturday doubleheader, coming back to defeat the Broncos 4-2. Trailing 2-1 in the 7th inning, a leadoff double got the rally started and after a 2 out error, USD tied the game at 2. The Toreros left runners stranded on second and third in the top of the ninth inning but broke through in the 10th, scoring two runs to put the game away.

The Toreros clinched the series win with their second straight extra innings win. After Santa Clara tied the game in the bottom of the 7th, USD scored one in the 8th to take a 4-3, a lead they would hold on to for the win.  Halle Kyler picked up the win, holding the Broncos scoreless on one hit and no walks in 2 innings. USD now sits at 25-18 overall and 4-2 in WCC games. They will head back to Northern California for a three game series with Pacific this weekend.

Baseball

USD baseball faced St. Mary’s in a three game series this past weekend. In the first game, the Toreros found themselves trailing 8-4 heading into the bottom of the 8th inning, where they exploded for 5 runs in route to a 9-8 victory. During the game the Toreros made an uncharacteristic seven errors but were still able to rally for the win. Dante Gutierrez supplied the winning hit with a pinch-hit two-run single to right to give the Toreros the 9-8 lead.

However, things only went downhill for USD after Friday. On Saturday, they were defeated 6-5 and on Sunday were obliterated 16-2. The Gaels would total 19 hits against six Torero pitchers. USD now sits at 17-19 and 7-8 in conference play. The Toreros will look to bounce back this Tuesday vs Cal State Fullerton.
