Women’s Tennis

USD Women’s Tennis won its final WCC match of the season on Sunday with a 4-0 sweep of Pacific. Redshirt Senior Colomba DiFilippo celebrated her last match at the Hogan Tennis Center and she assisted her team to their victory with a win in doubles that clinched the point for the Toreros. USD dominated from the start and never looked back in route to their 11 victory of the season. This victory brought the Toreros to 11-10 overall and 3-6 in WCC play. They will begin play in the WCC championships this Thursday

Men’s Tennis

USD Men’s Tennis took on Pacific and St. Mary’s this weekend and came away with two wins to clinch the WCC Regular Season Championship. USD has won four of the past five WCC regular-season titles. After sweeping Pacific 4-0, the Toreros were forced to come from behind to beat St. Mary’s on Sunday.

Trailing 3-2, USD rallied to tie the score at 3 in comeback fashion 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 and then finished off the win with a 6-4, 7-6 (2) win to secure the title. The Toreros finished the regular season with a record of 14-8 overall and 8-1 in WCC play. They will now put their focus on the WCC Tournament beginning next weekend in Claremont, California.

Softball

USD Softball was swept for the first time this season in WCC play this past weekend, dropping three at Pacific. In Saturday’s double-header, the Toreros fell behind early in the first game and trailed 3-0 after three and 4-1 after four. Each team added one more as USD lost the first game 5-2. USD took an early lead in the second game and led 5-2 in the 6th inning before the Tigers exploded for four runs, taking a 6-5 lead that they would not relinquish.

On Sunday, the Toreros gave up three unearned runs and fell 6-3. USD loaded the bases in the 7th with a chance to tie or take the lead but were unable to capitalize on the opportunity. The Toreros record now stands at 25-21 overall and 4-5 in WCC play. The team will look to bounce back next weekend when it plays host to Loyola Marymount for a three-game series. USD will play six straight home games to conclude the regular season.

Baseball

USD Baseball was swept by Pepperdine this past weekend in Malibu. Things got off to a very rough start for the Toreros on Friday with a 14-1 loss vs the Waves. Pepperdine scored nine runs in the first three innings and never looked back, cruising to a victory. The struggles continued on Saturday as the Toreros bats were shut down by Pepperdine starter Jonathan Pendergast who pitched a complete game shutout giving up just two hits in route to a a 4-0 win.

The sweep was completed on Sunday with the Waves winning 7-4. USD took a 4-2 lead into the bottom of the 6th, only to see Pepperdine score five to take a three run lead, a lead they would not give up. This loss dropped the Toreros to 18-22 overall and 7-11 in WCC play. This team will look to bounce back this Tuesday at UC Irvine and then will head to Utah for a three game series vs BYU.
