Softball

USD Softball picked up wins vs. San Diego State and UCSB this past week. A strong effort by Hannah Boos and a pinch-hit home run powered USD to a 4-2 victory at San Diego State on Tuesday. Boos turned in another quality performance, holding the Aztecs to two runs on six hits and no walks with six k’s. She held a no-hitter through the first 3 1/3 innings before it was broken up by an infield single. The 6-9 batters for the Toreros paced the offense accounting for 5 of the 6 hits.

Emili Olague homered in the 3rd to put the Toreros up 2-0 and they added two more later in the inning. SDSU rallied for two in the bottom half of the inning but that was all the offense for the Aztecs. Delaney Heller earned her team-leading fourth save of the season, striking out the side in the seventh to seal the victory for the Toreros.

The Toreros continued their winning ways on Wednesday with a 4-1 over the UCSB Gauchos. Five Toreros players registered a hit apiece and four players scored a run each. Once again the Toreros pitching was strong, giving up just one run on five hits. The Toreros are now 21-15 on the season and face off versus UNLV on Tuesday.

Baseball

USD Baseball went 1-2 this past weekend in San Francisco. The series started with a 8-4 defeat to the Dons on Thursday. The Toreros fell behind early and trailed 5-0 after six before getting getting on the board with a two run homer from Daniel Gardner. However, the Toreros were unable to contain the Dons offense which tallied 14 hits off Torero pitching. The struggle continued on Friday for the Toreros as they fell 4-2 to the Dons.

USD got off to a 1-0 lead but  The Dons tied the score at 1-all in the third, and it was a one-out, two-run homer by off USD starter Chris Murphy in the 5th inning that was the big blow.
